As you can see i've made some small touches to the colour scheme.. The caravan is pretty sound, just some little jobs still to do. I'm looking for some nice chrome hubcaps to replace the awful plastic ones that are on it. anyone know what might fit?

Hi Snowy, glad you found the forum, sorry for the belated welcome. Great to see the pics with the mini and husky doing the towing. I got some hub caps on ebay for the 13" wheels on our Thomson, looks so much better than the plastic ones. As I think you're van has the 10" mini wheels then the hubs from a mini should fit ok. The original wheels where from Mini's so that you did not have to carry two spares, something which was rather clever at the time as it meant more space for your luggage and of course the all important cansof beer! lol Hope all is well, Graham

Hello Graham. Glad you like our miniglen combination. ours has the 13" wheels. i have tried several chrome hubcaps but none have fitted so far. The early ones having the mini wheels was a clever idea...so was the idea of more beer. Snowy

i need to replace the wheel bearings. any idea what the specification would be for them?...size and such? Will see what I can find out, off hand I would reckon they would be on a B&B chassis so maybe a local dealer will have some old ones in stock or the modern equivalent. If anyone has replaced bearings drop me an e-mail with the details of where you got them and I will gladly add the details to the website.

i need to replace the wheel bearings. any idea what the specification would be for them?...size and such? Good morning Snowy, I just took mine apart on the Glenelg the other day to check them, the bearings were OK but the seal on one side was iffy lifeattheendoftheroad.wordpress.com/2011/05/31/more-like-it/Assuming they are the same on the Miniglen I can measure mine and get the numbers off them for you. If your seal has the same number as that one W 256162.37.R4 then the chances are that the bearings will be the same size. Don't worry about the R4 bit, it only relates to the type of seal and not size. These are all 'imperial' sizes and can be tricky to find but I did find a seal supplier www.bearingstation.co.uk/products_info.aspx?PartNo=OilSeal25616237Looking at their site I'd say there's a good chance they'll also stock the bearings. I will measure mine as soon as possible but it may be a day or two. Good luck, Paul

Thank you Paul. thank you Graham. I haven't taken them apart yet so i don't know what numbers may be on mine. but the n/s one has quite noticeable play in it so it will need attention pretty soon.

Thank you Paul. thank you Graham. I haven't taken them apart yet so i don't know what numbers may be on mine. but the n/s one has quite noticeable play in it so it will need attention pretty soon. Good morning Snowy, if it's just play then it can more than likely be cured by adjustment. The bearings on these chassis are far larger than any modern day company accountant would allow and I suspect that in their day failure was rare if greased annually. Timken the company who provided these bearings invented the 'taper roller bearing' and are renowned for their quality. Hence the price of them which is about four times more than a modern day metric one. The first thing you need to do is jack Colin up release the brake and spin the wheel, if it's smooth and quiet, the chances are the bearings are OK. Then remove your shiny new hub caps ;D and the little grease cap that covers the bearing. Take out the split pin and tighten the large nut until the play has gone, then spin it again, if there's no noise you're laughing. Now the slightly tricky bit you will more than likely find that with the wheel bearing play gone that the split pin hole does not line up. To remedy this DO NOT TIGHTEN the nut any more, remove it and do one of two things. carefully file or grind the base of the nut until it does line up or just add thin washers or a combination of both. Of course you'd be wise to remove the brake drum to check the brakes, add some grease, and do a visual inspection whilst you're at it. Good luck, Paul
