Is this a 1980's Thomson Caravan? This is a photo of myself and my grandparents taken (I think) in the 1980's at Low Mannesty CC site, Lake District with what I think was their Thomson caravan... I know they owned a Thomson during their caravnning life, they later upgraded to a Safari.

Thanks for the prompt reply Graham. If there are any other photos then they will be at my mothers house, so I will ask her. I recal that in the rear end nearside corner was a toilet. Quite a novelty for me as my parents Alpine caravan didnt have one! So in comparison I thought the Thomson was really posh ;D The front of the Thomson was of a traditional twin bench layout. My grandparents holiday'd for weeks at a time around the remote parts of Scotland, only returning home at school holiday time. They later sold their van to my parents which made me happy as we now had a posh caravan to go on holiday in. My grandparents then purchased a brand new Safari caravan which they sadly had stolen a few months later. They then gave up caravanning altogether.

Looks to be the same as mine, certainly mid 70's as they moved the toilet window to the back in around 77. Mine is a '76 and has the same layout from the photo, maybe a 75/76 Glenevis. The gas box lid is different to mine so maybe a 75 model...

Sounds right Mike, have to admit I can't get to the files just now as we have all the gear from inside the van covering them. Should be moving some of it up the stairs this week so will get into the files then.
This caravan rebuilding lark is hard work! lol

Thanks for the replies. Sorry, but havent managed to get any more photos yet as my mother is on holiday.
I do remember now that in addition to the layout description above, running down the length of the caravan in the offside rear end were the bunkbeds. I assume they would have converted from a bench seat? In the offside centre of the caravan was the wardrobe, and the kitchen area was opposite on the nearside.

The layout sounds like a Glennevis still not sure on year though.

Right I think its a 1975 Glennevis from looking at other photos and the description given. Mine is believed to be a 1976 model and has the newer gas box and the side toilet window. This one has the same window position but the earlier gas box. The body vents on this are the open louvre type rather than the covered ones found on 1974 models... split the difference and its a 1975. I may of course be wrong

Good theory and once I can get back into the files, which are swamped in caravan bits and pieces due to the rebuild , I will try to confirm it.
